Savannah Business Journal Staff Report

July 25, 2014 - The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center has been named the host site for 2015 and 2016 years for three different United States Tennis Association South Carolina tournaments. The organization awarded Palmetto Dunes the winning bids to host the 55 & Over and 75 & Over, the Combo Doubles, and 65 & Over and 70 & Over state championships.

The USTA chose Palmetto Dunes to host these tournaments for one-year bids in 2014 and has extended all three for an additional two years.

The center is hosting the 65 & Over and 70 & Over championship for the first time this year November 6-10, and in May, it hosted the 55 & Over and 75 & Over for the first time. The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center will host the Adult Combo Doubles Championship for the second time October 16-20.

“We’ve proven to have the staff, not only here at the tennis center, but throughout our resort to handle the multiple responsibilities of a bid,” says Jackie Reynecke, group coordinator for the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. “There is certainly a vibe when a championship is going on, and being part of it, even as a host or an employee here at Palmetto Dunes, is very fun and exciting. Doing our part to make the player’s championship experience a great one wherever needed is our job and I personally think we do it pretty well!”

Palmetto Dunes has received many accolades for its tennis facilities over the years, including consistent rankings in Tennis Magazine’s top 50 U.S. tennis resorts, as well as being named the No. 1 tennis resort in the Carolinas in 2012, according to Reynecke.

Additionally, TennisResortsOnline.com, which compiles guest reviews of tennis facilities across the world, named the resort in its top 10 of 100 best tennis resorts worldwide, and No. 4 in the world for both its children’s programs and adult tennis instruction for 2014.

The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center is considered a ‘world-class’ tennis facility that has been hosting players since 1975. Its staff leads more than 40 adult instructional programs and more than 25 junior tennis programs each week during the summer season, along with popular daily round robin tournaments.

From March to October, the Tennis Center adds a weekly exhibition, happy hour and free demonstration day.

The Tennis Center will host 11 tournaments in 2015, beginning with the No Snow Winter Classic in February.

The tennis center is located at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, a 2,000-acre resort destination located in the middle of Hilton Head Island, S.C.
